What is
Diverse Dance Arts?

Diverse Dance Arts was created by Chezale Rodriguez; an Arizona based multidisciplinary performing artist, dance educator and arts & cultural practitioner who utilizes music, dance, storytelling and dialogue to inspire healing, liberation and inclusivity. It manifested out of a deep need and desire to express and reconnect with her passion for dance, after experiencing a life-altering injury in 2023.

What makes it Diverse?

The artistic and holistic expression of diverse dance that is welcome to those with diverse-abilities and different ways of being.

What is the Vision?

TO EXPRESS AUTHENTICALLY

BTW DANCERS 1.jpg

TO EXPAND THE VISIBILITY OF DIVERSITY

TO PROMOTE WELL-BEING

TO BUILD COMMUNITY

TO PRACTICE INCLUSION AND ACCESSIBILITY THAT IS CENTERED IN THE ART OF DANCE

What is the Philosophy?

"My teaching is rooted in the belief that dance is a pathway to healing, liberation, and authentic expression. My background is deeply rooted in choreography and technique, and I appreciate the form, if it calls—but I also believe in movement at a soul level at its core; an embodied practice that weaves together music, story, and genuine exchange that aims to support the whole person.

I believe everyone has an inherent relationship to movement. In my work, I create space for people to remember, reconnect, return, and reclaim a sense of joy and comfort in their bodies. Whether someone is new to dance or rediscovering it, I invite them to move in ways that feel true to who they are.

My teaching is grounded in inclusivity, accessibility, and the celebration of diverse lived experiences. I am committed to cultivating spaces where diverse beings and identities feel welcomed, valued, and seen.

I center well-being in my practice, encouraging movement as a tool for self-awareness, care, and connection. Through this work, I honor dance as a liberatory practice—one that nurtures both individual growth and collective belonging."

What has Developed?

In early 2025, the launch consisted of a transformative four-part event titled, "Breaking Through: Diverse Dance Arts Workshop Series with Chezale."

The theme of these workshops was directly tied to using dance expression as a healing art to support in “breaking through” personal challenges.

The series was open to 15 diverse community members of different backgrounds, ages, cultures and abilities who participated in a progressive class inclusive of: storytelling, collaboration, improvisation and culminating in a private performance.

The partnership was with Art State Arizona & Catalyst Creative Collective in Tucson, Arizona. This program was funded in part by Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona with funding from The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 through the City of Tucson.
